A description of post-tensioned tendons
Post-tensioning is a technique for strengthening concrete. Post tension distributes the force from the ligament into the concrete around the ligament ends. Because unbonded single-strand post-tensioning works on one tendon at a time, each support is a plate designed to disperse the stress from one locked-off tendon. The usual kind variable is a rectangle about 2 1/2" wide and a little over 5" high, with a conical opening in the middle for the tendon and steel wedges that secure it. The wedges have serrated teeth to attack the hair, making a mechanical bond to hold it in position. Three major applications with somewhat different anchorages prevail for elevated decks.
A dead-end is placed in the manufacturing facility after the ligament has been reduced to length. Depending on the manufacturer, the wedges can be pushed into the tooth cavity with a hydraulic press, finishing the wedge teeth into the sides of the strand, or a jack orders the tendon on the bearing side of the support and pulls the wedges and tendon right into dental cavities like a lobster trap. Because the force exerted by the wedges is much greater than the area created by the jack, the wedges frequently distort the tendon and match the wedge cavity—the bond is irreversible.
There are also real-time ends. These are attached to the concrete formwork with a special insert that creates a hole in the concrete so that the jack can reach the strand. If a tendon is over 120 feet, both finishes will be sent "live" to allow for a bigger last efficient force.
Concrete logistics are such that it's not constantly possible to pour an entire piece simultaneously, so specialists damage them upright into smaller pores that are much easier to position. It's common to emphasize the tendons and then strip the formwork for the independent bays. It requires a special type of live-end support that can be slid along the ligament and mounted in the middle of the slab, called an intermediate license.
